Born in Geneva, Sarah Matousek stands out for her wide-ranging solo repertoire as a light lyric soprano, spanning from opera to chamber music and oratorio. In recent years, her particular affinity for the Baroque and Classical periods has most notably shaped her artistic journey.
During the 2024/2025 season, Sarah will perform at the Grand Théâtre de Genève (La Plage) in various outreach and mediation projects. She will be a soloist with the Motet de Genève in Mondonville’s In exitu Israel, as well as with the Arte Musica choir in Palmieri’s Misatango. Sarah will also collaborate with several Swiss ensembles (Cantatio, Ensemble Buissonnier, Ensemble Diaphane, La Fontana Cantabile…), and will give recitals of lieder and songs with piano and with guitar.
In 2024, Sarah is a soloist in Haydn’s Nelson Mass (HEM Geneva) and in Bach’s St. John Passion under the direction of Ton Koopman. Her recent concert engagements also include solo parts in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion at the Dartington Festival (UK), in Handel’s Messiah at Lausanne Cathedral, and in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio under the baton of Masaaki Suzuki.
In 2023, Sarah worked with the Geneva Camerata (dir. David Greilsammer), performing several roles in a young audience adaptation of Rameau’s Platée. In 2022, she sang on the stage of the Opéra de Lausanne as part of recitals for young audiences. Sarah’s other notable operatic roles include Morgana (Alcina, Haendel) at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg (dir. Attilio Cremonesi); soloist in Castor && Pollux (an original creation based on Rameau’s opera) at the Heidelberger Frühling Musikfestival; Belinda (Dido and Aeneas, Purcell), and Amore (L’incoronazione di Poppea, Monteverdi) with the Ensemble OrQuesta company in London.
As an ensemble singer, Sarah performs with the Namur Chamber Choir, notably under the direction of Leonardo García Alarcón. For several seasons, she has collaborated regularly with various Swiss ensembles, including the choirs of the Opéra de Lausanne and Grand Théâtre de Genève, Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne, Académie Vocale de Suisse Romande, Ensemble Chiome d’Oro.
After earning both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Performance from the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne (class of Frédéric Gindraux), Sarah continued her training in London with various teachers. In 2024, she obtained a Master’s degree in Vocal Pedagogy from the Haute École de Musique de Genève (class of Clémence Tilquin).
